Hi, I’m Dasa. I’m spending a lot of time thinking about what is normal and who gets to say so and why. I read a lot of books and articles about Psychology and Neuroscience. It’s my passion and my Job: I’m a Coach (or a Councellor, as some of you might rather call it). See my german website www.dasacoaching.de if you want to find out more about me.
Why »Normal Disorders«?
In the traditional yes-or-no approach of therapy, the therapist decides whether someone meets the minimum number of diagnostic criteria and therefore has the disorder. Or, as the wise bacteria from one of my drawings puts it: A diagnosis is an opinion.
While acknowledging the reality of mental illness, neuroscientists in the meantime have shown that there are no clear boundaries between normal and abnormal in the brain. We define those boundaries – and above all a huge pharmacy industrie with a huge interest in making money by labelling people abnormal.
If you are normal or not should not be based on an arbitrary yes/no-diagnosis but at least also on your personal appraisal of the kind of person you wish to be and the kind of life you hope to lead.
I want to engage people in thinking about (their) normal disorders. So please feel free to share my drawings. Thank you!
